For Jamie Greenebaum, serving as a Young Leadership Division (YLD) Peer isn't just volunteer work-it's a mission rooted in her own life story.

Growing up with a sibling with disabilities, Greenebaum witnessed firsthand the challenges people face in finding inclusion and connection. Those experiences shaped her belief that everyone deserves to feel welcome and valued.

Today, Greenebaum brings that conviction to life by accompanying young adults with disabilities to YLD events. Her role ensures that these gatherings are not only accessible but also warm and inviting. "It's a universal experience: Everybody wants to belong," said Greenebaum, who also serves on Keshet's Board of Directors. "I can be that built-in person for someone who might otherwise feel alone [at an event]."

Prior to becoming a Peer, volunteers receive training from JUF partners JCFS Chicago and Keshet. "All you need to be is a friendly person who is open and welcoming," explained Greenebaum, who is a Funeral Director by day. "The training provides guidance, but much of the role is about showing up with empathy and learning as you go."

Recently, she served as a Peer at YLD's Big Event Fundraiser. "It's really just being a friend. If that sounds interesting to you--which, as a human being, it should--then do it. You'll make a difference in someone's life."

In 2025, you made it possible to--

  • Serve 1,733 children and youth with developmental delays or disabilities in school-based settings through JCFS Chicago, Keshet, and REACH.

  • Host 2,940 community members in more than 100 disability or other inclusion-related events.

  • Provide 1,387 family members and caregivers of individuals with disabilities with services to increase knowledge, skills, and access to resources to support loved ones.

"Keshet has opened a world of opportunity for [my son]--a place where he can be part of group activities, make friends, and enjoy the simple, wonderful experiences that are a regular part of childhood for so many others."

~ Mallory, Keshet parent

"I was included because I got to be with peers and make new friends. My favorite event this year was Big Event. The comedian was funny and made me laugh."

~ Erin, YLD Peer participant
